As the darker nights roll in, the party season is just around the corner – which, as we all know too well, means food, fun and festivities are well on their way! But before your diary fills up with all of those after-work drinks, here are our top five items you need to fill your capsule wardrobe with this autumn, to take you from the office to the bar in effortless style.
A Classic White Shirt
The classic, crisp white shirt is one of those timeless pieces that every style-conscious man should have in his wardrobe. As well as looking smart under a suit during office hours, it can also be dressed down by layering it with a crew neck jumper on those cold evenings at the pub, or even just rolling the sleeves up and removing the tie for a smart-casual look in the bar.
White shirts also look great paired with some chinos and a statement belt for that really iconic ‘office-to-bar’ outfit. As this will be one of the most versatile items in your wardrobe, it’s important to go with quality over quantity. Choose a well-tailored design, from the likes of Gant or Hackett London, made from thick cotton; after all, the last thing you want is to be able to see through it once you’ve taken your jacket off!
A Light Bomber Jacket
Move over James Dean, the bomber jacket is back in style! Great news if you’re looking for something to throw over a shirt to help to dress it down a little, or pair with jeans and a fitted white tee to make the look just that little bit smarter. Invest in a simple, slim cut in a darker shade to ensure its adaptable enough to go with everything.
If your job doesn’t require a suit on a day to day basis, smart jeans really are the holy grail when it comes to 9-5 wardrobe. Keep it traditional and choose a dark blue, slim fit with no distressing to ensure that they are smart enough for work but casual enough to hit the pub after-hours.
A Two-Button Suit
Every man needs at least one perfectly tailored suit in his wardrobe for those formal occasions and extra special events. If in doubt, go with the classic two-button design; the suit will look dapper as a full ensemble, but the blazer will also double up nicely to smarten up chinos or jeans too.
The Traditional Peacoat
As the cold winter weather begins to set in, you’re going to need a quality coat to keep you cosy. So, the last but certainly not least item in our ‘office to bar capsule wardrobe’ is the infamous peacoat. This really is the ultimate multi-purpose item; the clean, V-shaped neck and pointed lapels allows you to dress up any jeans and t-shirt combo – and, because of the neat and flattering shape and the fact that it’s longer than a jacket, it also works brilliantly with a suit.
So, if you’d rather spend more time catching up with friends over a drink, than shopping for your Autumn wardrobe, leave your capsule wardrobe in our safe hands.
